Summer Twilight

I’ve always associated chartreuse with the word sickly. If I were to describe summer, I’d call it sickly and sticky. The sweltering heat can be nauseating. It’s the season of melted popsicles and fresh fruit stains on finger tips, which is why I included the open-faced fruit pies. It's the season of hazy days and the quiet aimlessness that settles when there is no school and too much time.
You can tell what time of year it is by what’s on the table because what we eat often follows the rhythm of the seasons. The painting shares the same composition as Peaches & Cottage Cheese, lending to the same feeling of of emptiness and abundance.
