Peaches & Cottage Cheese

Peaches and Cottage Cheese was inspired by a childhood story my dad has told countless times at the dinner table. When he was in school, he was served a snack of peaches and cottage cheese. He refused to eat it, and as punishment, was made to finish two full portions. To this day, he can't even look at cottage cheese without it evoking a visceral reaction.
This painting was the first in the series and became the cornerstone for the entire collection. I was struck by how a moment of childhood discomfort could stay with someone for decades. The painting speaks to how certain memories and the recollection of them become part of our personal mythology. They shape the way we connect with each other around the table, and come to understand the most important parts of ourselves. This piece is a reflection of that. Limited edition prints will be available soon.
